Rainwater Harvesting made compulsory in several institutional buildings in Maharashtra

One of the best initiatives by Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), all the institutional buildings will have rainwater harvesting as a mandatory system. Rainwater harvesting committee said it is their first step towards promoting rainwater harvesting.

The NMC held a committee meeting a few days back to discuss the gravity of the water situation in the area. Sandip Joshi heading the committee, shared that owing to the severe scarcity that prevailed in the summer end and monsoon beginning, there raised a need to look into the matter for an effective solution. Rainwater harvesting being the apt solution is likely to provide a prominent solution to the prevailing situation.

Different committee members such as Abhay Gotekar (chairman of projects consultative committee), Vijay Zalke (chairman of water works consultative committee), executive engineer Shweta Banerjee, superintending engineers such as Manoj Talewar (NMC), PP Dhankar (NIT), assistant director of town planning Pramod Gawande, architect, geologist and teachers were a part of the committee meeting.

The committee’s main agenda was to direct the officials to undertake measures to make rainwater harvesting mandatory in all the government buildings such as hospitals, educational institutions, different government departments and private buildings etc. Not only this, the committee has decided to take strong steps in the awareness generation and implementation of rainwater harvesting in various buildings in the stipulated time span.
